With so many families facing economic hardships, Congregation Shir Ami, a reform congregation located in downtown Greenwich, is offering free membership and religious school (K-6) to all new members for the first year (2009-2010).
Dear
Friends,
Thank
you for considering Congregation Shir Ami as a part of your Jewish Life.
On behalf of the congregation, we want to welcome you to experience
all we have to offer, whether you're simply curious about who we are
or are actively searching for a religious community for prayer, education
and friendship. "Welcome" is a special word in this congregation:
we truly welcome anyone wishing to practice Judaism or be affiliated
with the practice of Judaism. You will experience this principle in
all congregation activities.
Our
first five years have been very exciting: we have observed multiple Shabbat
worship services, celebrated 12 B'nai Mitzvah's, opened our religious
school, participated in many Family Education days, and participated
in exciting social action events, including Father's Hearth, Neighbor
to Neighbor and Adopt a Family. Over the course of the coming year,
we will celebrate more B'nai Mitzvah's, the High Holy Days, Sukkot,
Simchat Torah, Hanukah, as well as Purim, Passover, and Shavuout. We
have launched our SAT (Shir Ami Teens) programs, and continue to join
together for new Family Education days. These activities are providing
many opportunities for us to participate and expand our Jewish life,
each at his/her own pace. Members of the congregation participate in
the creation, development and/or implementation of all of these events.
Congregation
Shir Ami acquired its own Torah which dates from the 1880s
and was saved from the Holocaust by a Christian family in Poland.
A member of our congregation searched and found the Torah on a trip
to Poland last summer, and spent the past year making arrangements to
personally transport it from Poland to Greenwich in time for the High
Holy Days.
We welcome you to join us for any of our congregational worship services
and other activities. We are a modern congregation, using e-mail

Sincerely,
