Rabbi David E. Levy
Rabbi David E. Levy served at Westchester Reform Temple from 2012 to June 2022, as an Assistant and then Associate Rabbi. He has also been the Director of the award winning Jewish Learning Lab at WRT. Rabbi Levy is very excited to be joining the Shir Ami community as our interim rabbi. He is married to Kate Stambler Levy (who by the way designed our current Shir Ami logo) and lives in Westchester along with their sons Benjamin, Micah and Ezra, and their dog Gizmo.
Rabbi Levy grew up in a small town in Connecticut, before attending Drexel University where he earned his B.S. in Information Systems, Magna Cum Laude. While pursuing his undergraduate degree, it became clear to him that his passion lay in working with the Jewish people and not in a cubicle. He then served as a Jewish Campus Service Corps Fellow, as part of a communal engagement program at Hillel of the University of Connecticut, before beginning his studies at HUC-JIR in 2006. Due to his passion for education, Rabbi Levy studied for an extra year, and earned an M.A. in religious education while at HUC-JIR, and was ordained as a Rabbi in May of 2012.
Cantor Abramson has known Rabbi Levy well for many years. She wrote: "Rabbi Levy brings extensive gifts as a teacher, pastor, and spiritual leader. His warmth, commitment to justice and keen intellect animates Jewish Life."
