Preparing Your Heart for the High Holidays - from Cantor Abramson
Each year, during the month of Elul, the month preceding the High Holidays, I reach for a certain book on my shelf. It's called Preparing Your Heart for the High Holidays, edited by Kerry M. Olitzky and Rachel T. Sabath. The book contains a meditation and teaching for each day of the month of Elul.
One particular passage from the foreword (by David Wolpe) stands out: "Modern life discourages introspection. The demands upon us grow more insistent, and we run unceasingly through the swirl of events and personalities that mark our lives. Most of us scrutinize ourselves only in extreme moments; times of trial or catastrophe. Rarely do we calmly resolve to hold a looking glass up to our own souls, eyes unwavering, and examine what we have done with our gifts, our obstacles and our opportunities."
During this month of Elul, may it be a time of heightened spiritual awareness for each one of us. May we carve out the time to reflect on our actions and live with intentionality.

The Salop's also shared ways they make their space special:
They turned their breakfast nook into a sanctuary with some long scarves, on the closed blinds, and a pashmina over the cardboard box they use to elevate their laptop on their table as their bimah. As they faced the zoom session with closed blinds around them, they felt the sukkah schlomecha around them and had little distraction from the rest of the house/room. They also dressed up as if they were going to services in person.
